Festivals in Burundi in August

August is a very good month to visit Burundi because several cultural events take place during this period.

The most important is Umuganuro, the traditional harvest festival. It is one of the most authentic cultural celebrations in the country, featuring rituals, traditional food, local beer, music and dance, often held around Muramvya and Gitega.

Another event that may take place in August depending on the year is JAMAFEST, a regional cultural festival that brings music, performances, workshops and artists from across East Africa, frequently hosted in Gitega.

During this period, visitors may also experience national drum performances and cultural celebrations at places such as Gishora, as well as religious celebrations like the Assumption on 15 August, which is widely observed across the country.

Overall, August is one of the best months for a cultural trip to Burundi thanks to good weather, strong cultural activity and opportunities to witness traditional ceremonies.
